As the summer approaches, our team at FSL anticipates the season’s usual impacts. We also have to anticipate the volatile and unpredictable.
The common impacts we expect this summer are:
Soaring Temperatures
Temperatures are predicted to be above-average this summer across the US, with the Northwest experiencing especially high temperatures for the region.
Extreme Weather Conditions
Summer is the peak season for hurricanes and tropical storms. We monitor these conditions at the National Hurricane Center website on a weekly basis.
Although we saw the devastating impacts of January’s Los Angeles Wildfires, peak wildfire season is late spring through the fall. It’s best to monitor reports on a weekly basis to navigate current and future routes in wildfires’ pathways.
Produce Season
As produce begins its annual boom, capacity shifts to follow the busy season. From now until August, van, reefer, flatbed, hopper, and vented van capacity will concentrate in the Southwest, Southeast, Mississippi Delta, Texas, and the Great Lakes to chase load volumes.
The unexpected impacts we expect this summer are:
90-Day Tariff Pause
While the pause may seem like a sign for a quick surge in materials ordering and load production, the timeline in which orders are fulfilled and shipped take longer than consumers often expect. There will be short-term relief, but we have to err on the side of caution when it comes to volumes rallying.
English Language Enforcement for Commercial Truck Orders
The U.S. DOT just signed an order strengthening guidelines for English language enforcement for commercial truck operators. This will impact current capacity as drivers can be put out-of-service if they are not found to meet proficiency standards. We must prepare for reduced or reluctant capacity as this order goes into place. Rates may rise accordingly as well to secure guaranteed proficient drivers.
While this appears to spell a daunting summer, at FSL we are not afraid. We monitor these impacts so you don’t have to worry. A part of the Full Sail Advantage is our 24/7/365 support and proactive communication.
Join us today to make for a worry-free summer!
